CITY OF MOUNTAIN VIEW: Apartment Fire in the 2300 Block of California St.

Fire

City of Mountain View issued the following announcement on Dec.1

On Friday, Nov. 27, at 9:25 a.m., Mountain View Communications received a 911 call reporting an appliance fire in an apartment in an 8-unit, 2-story apartment building located in the 2300 block of California Street.

Units were dispatched at 9:26 a.m. and arrived on scene at 9:30 a.m. Fire companies encountered smoke emanating from a second-floor apartment. The apartment occupants had self-evacuated from the involved unit. Firefighters evacuated the remaining complex residents. Firefighters entered the unit on fire and extinguished the kitchen fire via apparatus pre-connected fire suppression lines. The fire had extended behind the kitchen wall and into the attic. Firefighters cut open the wall and roof to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames, confirmed fire extension had been stopped, and performed extensive overhaul of the unit. The fire was confirmed to be fully extinguished and the “all clear” was given at 10:07 a.m., meaning everyone was accounted for and the fire was completely out. The prompt arrival and extinguishment of the blaze prevented further fire extension and damage to other apartment units in the complex.

The occupants of the involved apartment have found other living arrangements. The remaining building occupants returned to their residences which were not affected.

The fire was extinguished with no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $50,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
