Tips to Help You Implement Asset #32: Planning and Decision Making
- Ask youth to create a daily/weekly “to do” list and check off as they complete their tasks.
- Help youth to write down all the things he/she would like to accomplish during the next month to a year. Prioritize them.
- Encourage youth to get involved with decision-making committees and boards in your community.
Developmental assets are the positive values, relationships, skills and experiences that help youth and teens thrive. Young people with high asset levels are most likely to make healthy choices, while those with lower asset levels are more likely to get involved with negative or risky behaviors like violence, trouble in school, drug and alcohol use and more. The Search Institute of Minneapolis created the developmental assets framework. For more information, visit www.search-institute.org.
